Overview
Whenever is a game maker that runs in a web browser, in the spirit of Klik & Play (Maxis / Clickteam, 1994). You make a game — or a presentation — in three moves: put objects on a play area, choose how they move, and tick boxes in a grid of rules called events. No typing code. Fun for home and classroom use.
How It Works
The event grid is the whole idea: conditions down one axis, actions across the other, and ticking a cell wires up “when this happens, do that.” Whenever the ball hits a brick — destroy the brick, bounce the ball, add 50 to the score. Finished games export as a single, stand-alone .html file that runs anywhere.
In the Classroom
Because the event grid makes conditions and actions visible and explicit, it teaches the logic underneath programming — events, state, cause and effect — without any syntax to trip over. It’s a gentle on-ramp from “I ticked a box” to “I wrote a rule.”
Current Status
Playable in the browser, with standalone-game export working.
